Carlton Hill

Edinburgh – Around Carlton Hill, another one of Edinburgh’s seven hills, located in the city centre dominating the sky line with Acropolis aka the national monument, sitting there not quite finished, started in 1822 its unlikely to be finished any time soon.  Nelson’s Monument can be found next to the Acropolis this is a commemorative tower in honour of Vice Admiral Horatio Nelsons victory over the over the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.  at 13:00 (same time as the one o’clock) a time ball drops from the top of the tower originally used to signal the ships in Leith harbour.  Carlton hill is also home to the old city observatory.
